Highland Perthshire is a walker's paradise amidst scenery to die for, with some of the finest mountains, lowland trails, unspoilt roads and paths, mixed walking and designated routes in the British Isles. A wealth of walks for walkers of all abilities, from easy low-level walks and strolls to more difficult mountain scrambles - from a few hours' rambling and gentle walking, to veritable expeditions. Part of the appeal of walking here is the diversity of the seasons. Each has something different to offer as indeed does every day.

Walks to suit everyone, from a one-hour stroll with the kids to a multi-day trek through some of the last wilderness areas of Europe. At all times of the year, some of the most glorious scenery in Scotland can best be enjoyed here, on foot. The nearby Angus Glens in particular are well worth a visit.

The Cateran Trail
The Cateran Trail is a delightful 100km (60 mile) walk set in the Perthshire Highlands of Scotland similar to the West Highland Way. Often thought of as the Heart of Scotland Perthshire has some of the most dramatic and beautiful scenery in the UK. The Cateran Trail, based on historic drove roads used by ancient Caterans hundreds of years ago, takes in the best of this scenery.

Caterans, cattle rustling and pillaging towns and villages were a feared and formidable force in the Middle Ages. Fortunately todays walkers do not encounter any acient Cateran warriors, simply the breathtaking beauty of the Perthshire countryside.

Starting at the prosperous and delightful town of Blairgowrie the trail takes in beautiful Glen Isla and up to the Spittal of Glenshee, where in acient times many of the pilfered cattle were sold. It then winds its way down to Kirkmichael and Bridge of Cally.
